Calvin Park Comet Communication
June 26, 2026
Dear Calvin Park Families,
As we come to the end of the school year, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our Calvin Park families for your ongoing support, encouragement, and partnership. It has been a year filled with meaningful learning, creativity, growth, and connection.
Throughout the year, students have engaged in rich classroom learning, participated in a wide variety of activities, enjoyed memorable field trips, and taken part in special events that helped build community and school spirit. These experiences would not be possible without the dedication of our staff and the support of families who continue to encourage students to learn, participate, and try new things.
Report cards were sent home with students on Wednesday, June 24. We are proud of all that our students have accomplished this year and how much they have grown.
We wish everyone a safe, restful, and joy-filled summer.

Congratulations Graduates!
Congratulations to our Grade 8 Graduates! We were so proud to celebrate this milestone with students and families during our lovely graduation ceremony on Tuesday evening. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognize the hard work, growth, and accomplishments of our Grade 8 students.
Students also enjoyed a fun boat cruise, creating special memories with classmates as they marked the end of their time at Calvin Park. We wish all 197 of our Grade 8 students the very best as they transition to high school. We know they will carry forward the friendships, learning, and confidence they have built here, and we look forward to hearing about all the great things they will do next.
LEAP Showcase
Thank you to all of the families who joined us for our LEAP Showcase, “Elbows Up.” It was wonderful to come together as a school community to celebrate the creativity, talent, and hard work of our students. Our performers and behind-the-scenes contributors did an outstanding job sharing their learning and passion for the arts, and we are so proud of the confidence, teamwork, and dedication they demonstrated throughout the evening.
Hard Core Awards
We were delighted to come together for the Hard Core Awards Celebration to celebrate the hard work, dedication, and many achievements of our students. Congratulations to all students who were recognized for their contributions in Academics, Athletics, Arts/Technology, Citizenship, and Clubs. We are so proud of your effort, resilience, kindness, and commitment to making Calvin Park a wonderful place to learn and grow. Thank you to our families and caregivers for joining us and for your continued support and partnership, and thank you to our dedicated staff team for helping make this celebration possible.
Eco News
Our school’s Habitat Garden was launched three years ago and had its first planting last spring and fall. This spring our Eco Club met regularly to maintain our four planters, as well as operate the tumbling composters and grow seedlings for Little Forests Kingston.
Our Eco Club built two extra cedar planters this month and they will be ready for planting this summer and fall. We would like to acknowledge the following people and organizations for their support:
- Mr. Wartman at Calvin Park for helping us build the planters.
- Mr. Reid at LCVI for letting us use the wood shop.
- Parent Council for a $500 contribution.
- Glen Supply Co for a discount on the lumber.
- Bayridge Landscaping for a soil donation.
We are excited that many of our Eco Club students are coming back in grade 8. We are looking forward to a garden full of flowers in September.
Congratulations to Dana Price
It is with great pride to announce that our very own Dana Price was presented with the 2026 Barry C. O'Connor Award at the LDSB Board Office on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
Dana is widely recognized as an exceptional and deeply valued member of our school community, consistently going above and beyond the expectations of her role as Caretaker at LCVI/Calvin Park. She is known for her unwavering positivity, warm personality, and infectious sense of humour, which brighten the days of both staff and students alike. Dana has a remarkable ability to make people feel welcomed, supported, and appreciated, always greeting others with a smile and taking the time to connect. She does it all with warmth and a sense of humour that leaves people smiling and laughing, and on a particularly good day, clutching the wall for stability.
Dana demonstrates an outstanding work ethic and takes tremendous pride in maintaining clean, safe, and organized learning environments. She approaches even the most challenging and unpleasant tasks with professionalism, care, and attention to detail, consistently delivering work of the highest quality.
What truly sets Dana apart is her initiative and generosity. She regularly anticipates needs and steps in without being asked, whether helping colleagues, supporting students, preparing for events, improving classroom spaces, or solving problems quickly and effectively. Her efforts often have a meaningful and lasting impact on those around her.
Dana is also a natural leader and mentor. She willingly shares her knowledge, supports new staff members, and sets a high standard for others to follow. Her reliability, collaborative spirit, and ability to remain calm and effective in busy or challenging situations make her an indispensable part of our school's daily operations.
Beyond her professional contributions, Dana is deeply caring and selfless. She consistently goes out of her way to help others, both personally and professionally, demonstrating genuine empathy, kindness, and compassion.
Dana exemplifies dedication, initiative, teamwork, and caring in everything she does. Her positive energy, strong character, and unwavering commitment to supporting others make her truly deserving of this recognition and an outstanding recipient of the Barry C.
