TODAY’S INDIGENOUS EDUCATION FACT
13 Moons
Traditionally, Indigenous nations measured days and months using the lunar cycle. The moon goes through its cycle every 28 days and so there are 13 lunar cycles every year. Each moon was given a name which reflected important changes in the environment or in the spiritual lives of the people. Among the Anishinaabe, November is known as the Freezing Month.
